Head Boy 2020/2021

Five years ago, as a Transfer student, I would have never thought I would be writing as the Head Boy of Atlantic Hall. I have certainly come a long way from being the short freshman. With all the challenges of the job, especially in this time of COVID-19, God has given me the strength to rise above adversity and prevail. With different restrictions being put in place, all over the world, we have had to come up with new and creative ways of learning and overall school life. Last year was a challenging one for everyone, so it is a blessing that we are still here and safe given that, despite the adversity, we have seen a silver lining.

Apparently, I’ve taken away so many priceless memories and lessons from this institution. As can be attested to, Atlantic Hall adopted and groomed me to be a fine young man and great leader. As a result, my sojourn here has instilled a plethora of skills into me, and they will remain with me for the rest of my life. Like many others, I came in a boy, but I am leaving a man.

Being the head girl during this COVID-19 pandemic has been a very hectic task, however, it has equally pushed every one of us to improve our hygiene and take better care of ourselves. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in at least one positive thing, and that is a much greater appreciation for the importance of schools. Parents struggle to work with children at home due to school closures; the public has come to recognize the essential caregiving roles schools play in society. As students, we struggle to learn from home so our parents’ gratitude for teachers, their skills, and their invaluable role in students’ well-being has increased greatly.

It is on the basis of this that being the head girl has given me the opportunity to help the school in combating this pandemic. As the head girl, I ensure the COVID-19 protocols are observed by the students in the school area, hostel area and the sports complex to compliment the effort of the school. With the help of the entire prefect body, I make sure the following are complied with at all times:

  1. Wearing face mask to protect ourselves and others to stop the spread of COVID-19.
  2. Staying at least about 2 arm lengths from others.
  3. Avoid crowding ourselves, so I ensure in conjunction with the house parents to stay and maintain our respective bubbles.
  4. We ensure students wash their hands with soap and water regularly at least for 20 seconds.
  5. Where water and soap are not available, we ensure regular use of hand sanitizer.

Working for this position requires a lot of hard work, discipline, determination, and focus. Being in charge of an entire school is something that I genuinely looked forward to because of my passion, which is helping people. Being a leader is not about the title but also about character and control. I believe it is very tasking to keep a calm countenance in hard times, but having an open mind helps us proffer solutions to problems. Atlantic Hall has supported me in growing to be the exceptional woman that I am now and I am thrilled to get into the world and explore my bright future.
