At Atlantic Hall, we believe that a boarding school should be more than just a place of academic excellence; it should be a nurturing community where students can thrive. Our boarding houses aim to be the best “home away from home”—a place our students enjoy returning to, where they can share experiences, find support, build lasting friendships, and develop independence. Our dedicated pastoral care team provides a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for every student. The pastoral care provision at Atlantic Hall is a strength of the school. Staff at Atlantic Hall have comprehensive knowledge of the students and are skilled at supporting them to maximise the opportunities provided by the school. The school recognises its role in preparing children to adapt easily to the challenges and opportunities of our progressive, complex world. Personal, Social, Health, and Civic Education (PSHCE) is the subject that deals with real-life issues affecting our children, families, and communities. The subject supports students to be healthy mentally and physically, safe online and offline, and equipped to thrive in their relationships and careers.
Atlantic Hall has six hostel houses: three for girls (Junior, Senior, and SS3) and three for boys (Junior, Senior, and SS3). Each year group has its private quadrangle garden, with rooms accommodating five to six students or private en-suite bedrooms for SS3 students. We provide a caring environment that promotes thoughtfulness, consideration, and independence. Life in the boarding house fosters a strong sense of community, where students receive personalised attention. We understand that each student is unique and strive to provide tailored support to meet their individual needs. Open communication is encouraged between students, parents, and staff, with parents welcome to contact the boarding hostel lines on designated evenings (Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays).
Our boarding community emphasises holistic development, addressing students’ emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. We equip students to live together peacefully, be tolerant of different views, and build resilience. Emotional support is provided by our experienced houseparents, counsellors, and safeguarding team, who actively encourage students to reach their full potential. Social development is promoted through a variety of weekend and boarding activities, including sports tournaments, Saturday night socials, movie nights, picnics, birthday celebrations, and unstructured chill-out Sundays. Spiritual guidance is also a priority, with Anglican, Catholic, and Pentecostal services held on Sundays and Muslim prayers officiated on Fridays and Sundays by a visiting Imam. Also, as part of our personal development efforts, we prepare our children for future roles as leaders through the promotion of independence, resilience, and responsibility. The student body participates in the selection of student leaders—the Student Representative Council (SRC), Prefects, Class Captains, House Captains, Room Captains, etc. The personal development effort through PSHCE and Student Leadership is underpinned by the ethos and values of Atlantic Hall School, which we uphold as an entitlement for all our students.
Our boarding team collaborates with teachers to ensure students have the academic resources needed for success. Prep time is sacrosanct, fostering respect for homework and academic commitment. Student health and well-being are top priorities, with a school clinic staffed 24/7 by three (3) experienced doctors, five (5) nurses, and a Laboratory Scientist. Separate male and female wards ensure comfort, and parents are immediately contacted if admission is required. A dedicated ambulance service is available for emergencies, transporting students to external medical partners or the hospital of their choice when necessary. Safety and security are also paramount, with strong community relationships, CCTV surveillance, electrified perimeter fencing, intruder alarm systems, fire safety drills, and lockdown protocols ensuring students’ well-being at all times.
Atlantic Hall recognises the importance of a healthy, nutritious diet for students’ physical, mental, and emotional growth. Our comfortable, clean dining hall offers tasty continental and Nigerian meals, with menus developed in collaboration with the Student Representative Council and Dining Hall Prefects. Students also develop social and dining etiquette skills through daily meals. Weekend activities provide students with opportunities to explore interests in Performing Arts (Drama Club, Cheerleading, Music, School Choir), sports (Football, Cycling, Basketball, Volleyball, Swimming, Badminton, Tennis, and Handball), and many indoor games. Social events include the Sports Dinner, End-of-Year Bash, Summer Juvy Party, Spirit Week, Anti-Bullying Week, and simple, relaxed Sundays, fostering lifelong friendships and memorable experiences.
At Atlantic Hall, safeguarding and child protection are foundational to ensuring that all students feel safe. Our Safeguarding and Child Protection policy provides a framework for staff, governors, and volunteers to uphold student safety. The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) team is dedicated to proactive student protection. We also have the Designated Governor for Safeguarding (DGS), who is a member of the board of governors of the school and works directly with the DSLs on safeguarding matters as well as ensuring that the well-being of the students is a focus during board meetings. Bullying is strictly prohibited, and defined as intentional and repeated harm through physical, verbal, or emotional means, including cyberbullying. The school adopts a zero-tolerance policy, considering bullying a major sanctionable offence. Through proactive education, awareness campaigns, the Anti-Bullying Student Pledge, and Anti-Bullying Week activities, we foster tolerance, patience, and understanding, ensuring a safe and bully-free school environment.
